Traffic Advisory: Construction Near Kino Sports Complex

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers in Tucson to plan for the following restrictions on Interstate 10 between Park Avenue and Alvernon Way, Feb. 22-28 for roadwork:

Lane Restrictions: 

  • East-and-westbound Ajo Way between Bernard Drive and Kino Parkway/Ajo Way access road will be narrowed to one lane 24-hours a day through April. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes.
  • East-and-westbound Irvington Road between Outlet Center Drive and Palo Verde Road will continue to be narrowed to one lane 24-hours a day through April. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes.
  • North-and-southbound Palo Verde Road between Irvington Road and the eastbound I-10 on-and-off-ramps will have long term lane restrictions 24-hours a day starting at 8 p.m., on Sunday, Feb. 22, through April. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes.
  • East-and-westbound Ajo Way between Bernard Drive and Kino Parkway/Ajo Way access road will be closed to through traffic overnight from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 23, through the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 24, and again on Wednesday, Feb. 25, through the morning of Thursday, Feb. 26.
    Detours:

    • Drivers accessing eastbound Ajo Way should take Benson Highway south to Kino Parkway, then take Kino Parkway north to the Kino Parkway/Ajo Way access road, then take the Kino Parkway/Ajo Way east to access eastbound Ajo Way.
    • Drivers accessing westbound Ajo Way should take Ajo Way west to the Kino Parkway/Ajo Way access road, then take the Kino Parkway/Ajo Way access road north to Kino Parkway, then take Kino Parkway south to Benson Highway, then take Benson Highway west to Ajo Way.

    The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to use designated detours when there are closures on state highways. Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors.

    2026 Mike Acevedo Cowboy-Up Invitational

    The Mike Acevedo Cowboy Up Invitational, hosted by Desert View High School, will feature 31 high schools and will open the 2026 high school spring season at the Kino Sports Complex. Twelve of the teams traveling to Tucson are from the El Paso, Texas area, along with Round Valley High School from Eager, Arizona.

    Parents of athletes ages 12 to 18, should know of the recruiting changes underway for college athletics.

    The landscape of college athletics and the recruiting process is forever changing due in part to the following:

    3. New legislation

    Sun Belt College League

    Ages 17 – 25 | Season is June and July

    2025 Eligibility: 2025 Graduating high school seniors and full time college students.
    A summer College Baseball destination for the serious and highly competitive player, games played at the Kino Sports Complex.

    Sun Belt College Baseball League

    American Legion

    American Legion Baseball

    A Summer High School Baseball League for Jayvee and Varsity. A highly competitive league with a chance to advance and play in the National Legion Champtionship.

    Season is Early June – Early July

    Days of play are Monday – Thursday with a minimum of 12 games.

    OPENING NIGHT CEREMONIES

    All teams will be required to participate in the opening ceremonies at the Kino Sports Complex to kick-off the season.
